Team Building Games for Kids
Not only in the corporate world but also in the classroom a strong team spirit is the most important. The value of teamwork among classmates is better known to a teacher than anyone else. What you may not know is how to foster this team spirit. One of the best strategies is to use team building games for kids. These games are fun, which makes kids want to participate. Depending on the age of your students they may not even realize they are learning a valuable skill. They may look at the exercise as a fun game. That's the point -- you want the students to immerse themselves in the activity and get excited about working together as a team towards a common goal.
Team building activities for youngsters don't have to be complicated. For example, one easy way to cultivate teamwork and trust is to have your students work on a puzzle together. Or, have them decide on a theme and create a large mural based on that theme. This not only builds their team spirit and gets them working in close quarters, it encourages their creativity as well. You might think that the mural idea is only for young children, but even teens can get into making a creative masterpiece working as a team.
In the classroom setting, there are times when new students join the group. This can be a fantastic opportunity to strengthen your classroom team and integrate a new member into it. Many new students feel out of place and are nervous about making new friends. Some of your existing students may even resent a new classmate. To cultivate a spirit of kindness and strengthen teamwork among your students, have them make a Welcome Book. The Welcome Book should be worked on together and can contain photos, artwork and writing that talks about the classroom and welcomes a new student as a valuable team member. The new student then gets his or her own page in the Welcome Book.
There are lots of books on team building games for kids that can help any teacher. While you can certainly create your own team building games, these books can help you get your creativity flowing. Here are a few titles to get you started: 101 Team Games for Kids: Guaranteed Fun for All Ages by Joe Dinoffer, Character Building Activities for Kids: Ready-to-Use Character Educational Lessons & Activities for the Elementary Grades by Darlene Mannix and More Team Building Activities for Every Group by Alanna Jones.
