Ideas for Team Building Seniors
In any environment, teamwork is considered as an important skill. In the corporate world ,the classroom and even in families a good teamwork is crucial. In addition, team building seniors exercises are great for fostering a spirit of community in places where seniors live together such as assisted living communities and nursing homes. These various exercises and activities are fun and can help seniors get to know more about each other. These activities and exercises are similar to those practiced by teachers and executives but are often modified to suit the needs of senior citizens.
For example, you will find some of the games for team building are a bit physical. These can be changed to suit the needs of seniors who may not be as mobile. There are games that do not involve physical activity that can be fun. One game is the Categories game. For this, you will have participants break up into groups based on a common interest like a favorite color or favorite food. This will get them talking to each other and using problem solving skills. Communication is an important part of team building and can lead to a higher level of trust among teammates as well as improved problem solving skills.
Another team building exercise is the recipe game. Break seniors up into teams. Give each team pieces of a recipe and have them put it in order. You will want to cut out the title, ingredients, instructions into different pieces and mix them up. The teams will work together to put the recipe back together in logical order. The team that completes this task in the fastest time wins. You may want to have a small prize for the winning team.
It is a good idea to find different team building exercises to choose from. The best way to do this is to get some books on the subject. There are books that contain team building exercises for many different settings. You may find that corporate or classroom exercises can serve as team building seniors exercises as well. Here are a few books that you may want to consider: Games That Teach Teams: 21 Activities to Super-Charge Your Group by Steve Sugar and George Tackas, Improving Work Groups: A Practical Manual for Team Building by Dave Francis and Don Young, and Team Building Activities for Every Group by Alanna Jones.
